BG Rob Borcherding
BG Rob Borcherding currently serves as the Legal Counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Prior to this assignment, he served as Staff Judge Advocate, Combined Joint Task Force – Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, Iraq.
BG Borcherding’s previous assignments include: Executive Officer, United States Army Legal Services Agency, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Staff Judge Advocate, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado; Staff Judge Advocate, Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Deputy Chief, Operational Law, United States Army Africa Command, Stuttgart, Germany; Deputy Staff Judge Advocate, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; and Group Judge Advocate, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado. He has deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as other locations.
Originally from Chino Hills, California, BG Borcherding graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in International Relations and was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers. He holds a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, a Masters of Law in Military Law from The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, a Masters of Arts in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
