Thomas Martial is a legal practitioner specialised in public international law. He completed his legal training in the United Kingdom, France and the United States and holds an LLB from the University of Essex, a Licence and Master en droit from the University of Paris Nanterre, a JD from American University Washington College of Law and an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Cambridge. During his studies, Thomas worked as a research assistant for the War Crimes Research Office and the Anti-Torture Initiative at American University, where he gained his first experience in the field of international criminal law and human rights. He later acted as a Project Manager for the Cambridge Pro Bono Project during his LLM and co-directed the publication of a report on “The United Kingdom’s obligation to investigate, record and report civilian casualties in armed conflict” (2021). He is a member of the New York Bar and is qualified to practice law in France.
