Dr Chiara Redaelli
Dr Chiara Redaelli is a Senior Legal Adviser at Diakonia IHL Centre and visiting professor at the Catholic University of Lille and the University of La Sabana in Bogotà. She is co-editor in chief of the Journal on the Use of Force and International Law and member of the ILA Committee on the Use of Force.
Before joining Diakonia, she was Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. In 2019 she was visiting research fellow at Harvard Law School, for a project on peace and aggression in international law. She also formerly worked with UNHCR in Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Beijing (China).
Her areas of expertise include international humanitarian law, use of force, and international criminal law. Chiara is the author of Intervention in Civil Wars: Effectiveness, Legitimacy, and Human Rights (Hart Publishing 2021). Her work has been published in journals including the International Review of the Red Cross, the Journal on the Use of Force and International Law, and International Law Studies.
