COL Ryan Dowdy
Colonel Ryan Dowdy currently serves as the Chief, National Security Law Division, Office of The Judge Advocate General (OTJAG). Ryan’s previous assignments include: Chief, Strategic Initiatives, OTJAG; Staff Judge Advocate (SJA), Defense Security Cooperation Management Office – Afghanistan; SJA, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson; SJA, 8th Theater Sustainment Command; Professor and Chair of the National Security Law Department, The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS); and, Deputy SJA, 82nd Airborne Division. Ryan has deployed in support of joint, coalition, and NATO operations in Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Ryan received a B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) in 1996; a J.D. from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law (Campbell University) in 1999; an LL.M. in Military Law from TJAGLCS in 2008; and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
