CDR Lena E. Whitehead
Commander Lena E. Whitehead is currently serving as the Force/Fleet Judge Advocate for COMNAVCENT/C5F. Previously she served as the Command Judge Advocate for Special Operations Command Pacific.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2001, then worked as a research assistant for the Center of Strategic and Budgetary Assessments in Washington, D.C. She earned her Juris Doctorate and a certificate in Maritime Law from Tulane University in 2005. She received her Executive Masters in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2016. She is a member of the California State Bar and the U.S. Supreme Court, and received her commission in the U.S. Navy in October 2004 through the Student Program.
Commander Whitehead’s previous tours have included Naval Legal Service Office Northwest Branch Office Whidbey Island, Naval Legal Service Office Pacific Detachment Guam, USS John C. Stennis, Region Legal Service Office Southwest, Region Legal Service Office Hawaii, Office of the Judge Advocate General – Cyber, Intelligence, and Information Operations Division, Pacific Fleet, and Special Operations Command Pacific. She completed a Pacific Rim deployment aboard USS John C. Stennis in 2009, and a Global Support Assignment deployment with Combined Joint Inter-Agency Task Force 435 in Afghanistan, in 2013.
Commander Whitehead’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award), Navy Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of third award) and Navy Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of third award).
