Dr Yvette Issar is an international lawyer with sixteen years of expertise spanning international humanitarian law, disarmament and multilateral affairs. She earned her Ph.D. in Law from the University of Geneva and her LL.M. from the Geneva Academy for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Her research interests include the humanitarian engagement of armed non-state actors, detention in armed conflict, and humanitarian disarmament initiatives. She has previously worked for the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the University of Geneva, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), the Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO), and Geneva Call.

Currently, Dr Issar is the Founding Director of The Olerai Lab. Since 2024, The Olerai Lab has been working to amplify effective solutions to global challenges by promoting interdisciplinary collaborations. She is also a Senior Legal Adviser with the International Humanitarian Law Centre, and a consultant for the Quaker United Nations Office in Geneva.
