Announcement: Mehmet Çoban Joins West Point and the Lieber Institute
The West Point Department of Law and the Lieber Institute are pleased to announce that Major Mehmet Çoban Kilinç of the Royal Netherlands Air Force has joined West Point as the first Netherlands exchange officer to the United States Military Academy. Major Çoban is a Legal Advisor in the Royal Netherlands Air Force and a 2015 graduate of the Royal Military Academy.
Major Çoban has served at various levels of command, including the Joint Ground-based Air Defence Command, Royal Netherlands Army and Headquarters, Royal Netherlands Air Force. In 2018, Major Çoban deployed to Qatar as a Senior Legal Advisor in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. Before commissioning as an Air Force officer, Major Çoban studied law and received an LL.M. from Tilburg University.
We are excited to welcome Major Çoban to the team. As a member of the Department of Law, he will teach courses, including international law and comparative law, and he will participate in cadet summer training. His work at the Lieber Institute will help promote interoperability for U.S.-Netherlands combined operations and provide insights into European perspectives on law and operations. We look forward to working with him and strengthening the important friendship shared by the United States and the Netherlands.
