Farewell to MAJ Evin Stovall

Farewell

This week Articles of War and the Lieber Institute for Law and Warfare bid farewell to Major Evin Stovall. For two years, Evin served as Senior Editor at Articles of War where, behind the scenes for our readers but prominently for us, he led our administrative and technical support operations. Immediately upon joining our team, Evin earned our trust as an expert problem solver, selfless teammate, and forward-thinking leader. From contract reviews and execution to policy compliance, social media use, and internal reporting, Evin kept Articles of War running in countless respects, each just as important to our success as the drafting and editing that take centerstage on the site. No matter the complexity or delicacy of the task, we relied on his exceptional judgment, skill, and advice without reservation.

At the same time, Evin served as the Lieber Institute Executive Officer. The consummate teammate, he contributed directly to the success of every Lieber project including our events, publications, and outreach efforts. And while bearing more than his share of administrative tasks, Evin made time to publish, including a recent post on the International Criminal Court Kushayb judgment and this fascinating post based on a cadet trip he led to East Asia.

In countless respects, Evin leaves us in far better shape than he found us. He has epitomized the officer-scholar model that is the foundation of success at West Point and will be extraordinarily difficult to replace. We will greatly miss his endless initiative, positive attitude, unparalleled professionalism and subtle wit. But we are heartened that Evin returns to his first professional love, advising the nation’s commanders and leading its corps of military legal advisors in our shared field. We wish him godspeed in his next adventures and are grateful for the time we spent working together.
